COA: Lifetime Learning Series on Music Appreciation
Have a thousand questions about classical music and theater but were afraid to ask? Now is your chance! Join Ron Williams, personable and knowledgeable music instructor, in exploring the performing arts from ballet to Broadway over a course of four weeks. This autumn, we will explore Cosi fan Tutte, a comic opera by Mozart (Oct 16), Giselle, one of the most popular ballets (Oct 23), a symphony by Gustav Mahler (Oct 30), and finally the musical Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Nov 6). Each class includes a 30-minute overview and discussion of the work and composer, followed by approximately 60 minutes of viewing and listening to edited versions of a performance.
Ron Williams maintains a private voice studio in Natick and has performed in opera houses throughout the U.S. and Europe. He currently sings with the Boston Lyric Opera and was part of the groundbreaking new opera Omar, which garnered a Pulitzer Prize for the composer Rhionnan Giddens a few months ago. He performed roles with several companies nationally including San Francisco Spring Opera and Detroit Opera. Last summer Ron performed in the Grammy nominated work The Life and Times of Malcolm X.
